- Overview
The Rongai Route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side, near the border of Kenya and Tanzania. It is the only route that starts from the north and offers a unique perspective of Kilimanjaro’s wilderness. The Rongai Route is known for its dry climate and less crowded trails, providing a quieter trekking experience. This route is ideal for those seeking solitude, beautiful landscapes, and a high chance of wildlife encounters.
Unlike other routes, Rongai maintains a more gradual ascent, which can make it easier for acclimatization. However, the final push to the summit follows the same challenging path as the Marangu Route. The descent is also made via the Marangu Route, offering a chance to experience Kilimanjaro from both the northern and southern perspectives.
