The Lemosho Route is considered one of the most scenic and less crowded routes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting on the western side of the mountain, it crosses the stunning Shira Plateau, offering breathtaking views of Mount Meru and lush rainforests. The route has a slower, more gradual ascent, which allows for better acclimatization and a higher summit success rate.

Lemosho offers a quieter experience at the start, with fewer climbers on the trail. As it merges with the Machame Route near Shira Camp, the trail becomes busier. However, the climb-high, sleep-low strategy helps trekkers acclimatize effectively. This route is recommended for those seeking a more peaceful climb and a higher chance of reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be welcomed by our friendly team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, a pre-trek briefing will be conducted by our experienced guides. You will be provided with an overview of the trek, safety protocols, and gear requirements. This is the perfect opportunity to ask questions and ensure you are ready for the adventure.

After breakfast, you’ll be driven to Londorossi Gate, where you'll register and meet your trekking team of porters, guides, and cooks. From the gate, you’ll drive to the Lemosho trailhead to begin your trek through the dense rainforest zone. The trail winds through thick vegetation, home to a variety of wildlife, including Colobus monkeys and exotic birds.

After trekking for 3-4 hours, you’ll arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m), also known as "Big Tree Camp," where your tents will be set up for the night. Enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the rainforest as you prepare for the adventure ahead.

Trekking Duration: 3-4 hours
Accommodation: Camping at Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast, the trek continues through the last part of the rainforest. As you ascend, the lush greenery gives way to the heath and moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper, but the breathtaking views of Mount Meru and the Shira Ridge keep you motivated.

After 6-7 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Shira 1 Camp (3,610m), located on the expansive Shira Plateau. This is one of the most scenic camps on the route, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.

Trekking Duration: 6-7 hours
Accommodation: Camping at Shira 1 Camp

Today’s trek is shorter and allows for acclimatization. You’ll continue walking across the beautiful Shira Plateau, with views of the famous Kibo Peak in the distance. The trail is gentle but offers stunning sights of volcanic formations and the expansive plains of the plateau.

After 4-5 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Shira 2 Camp (3,850m). The afternoon is spent resting, acclimatizing, and enjoying views of the surrounding valleys. In the evening, you’ll be briefed on the next day’s trek.

Trekking Duration: 4-5 hours
Accommodation: Camping at Shira 2 Camp

Today is a crucial day for acclimatization as you trek to a higher altitude at Lava Tower (4,600m) before descending to Barranco Camp (3,900m). The trail becomes steeper as you enter the alpine desert zone, where vegetation is sparse and temperatures drop. This is where you may start feeling the effects of altitude, but the gradual descent helps with acclimatization.

After 7-8 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Barranco Camp, set beneath the stunning Barranco Wall, a highlight of the next day’s trek. This camp offers one of the most iconic views on the entire route.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Trekking Duration: 7-8 hours
Accommodation: Camping at Barranco Camp

This is a short but challenging day as you tackle the famous Barranco Wall. The climb requires the use of your hands for balance but does not require technical climbing skills. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Kibo Peak and the distant valleys.

You’ll continue trekking to Karanga Camp (4,035m), which serves as an important stop for acclimatization. The trek lasts around 4-5 hours, giving you plenty of time to rest, relax, and prepare for the challenging days ahead.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Trekking Duration: 4-5 hours
Accommodation: Camping at Karanga Camp

The trail from Karanga to Barafu Camp is a steep climb over rocky terrain, as you enter the arctic zone. Vegetation is minimal, and the landscape becomes desolate. The climb takes about 4-5 hours, and you'll arrive at Barafu Camp (4,640m) in the afternoon.

You’ll have an early dinner and rest early, as the summit attempt begins at midnight. Our guides will provide a final briefing to prepare you for the most challenging part of the climb.

Trekking Duration: 4-5 hours
Accommodation: Camping at Barafu Camp

This is summit day, the most challenging but also the most rewarding day of the trek. You’ll wake up around midnight for a light meal before starting your climb to the summit. With headlamps lighting the way, you'll ascend slowly through rocky terrain to Stella Point (5,756m). From here, the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) takes about an hour.

Reaching the summit at sunrise is a moment of triumph. Take in the magnificent views from the “Roof of Africa” and capture unforgettable photos. After a short celebration, you’ll begin the descent to Mweka Camp (3,110m), where you’ll rest after the longest day of the trek.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Trekking Duration: 12-15 hours (7-8 hours up, 4-6 hours down)
Accommodation: Camping at Mweka Camp

After breakfast, you’ll complete the final leg of your trek. The descent is relatively short and takes you through the rainforest zone, offering a final chance to spot wildlife like monkeys and tropical birds.

Upon arrival at Mweka Gate, you'll receive your Kilimanjaro climbing certificate (Green for Stella Point, Gold for Uhuru Peak). From there, you’ll be transferred back to Moshi, where you can relax and celebrate your accomplishment.
